Scenic Train Journeys to Take Around the World

One of my favorite travel experiences was taking the Glacier Express in Switzerland, a scenic train ride that cuts through the Swiss Alps, offering views of snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, and picturesque villages. The journey took us from Zermatt to St. Moritz, covering 291 kilometers, and provided a perfect way to see the stunning landscapes without the rush of a car trip.

Another unforgettable scenic route was the Rocky Mountaineer in Canada. This luxurious train journey took us through the Canadian Rockies, offering panoramic views of crystal-clear lakes, towering mountains, and dense forests. The service on board was exceptional, with gourmet meals and knowledgeable guides sharing insights into the history and natural beauty of the area.

In Japan, the Shinkansen offers an iconic high-speed train experience, but I also recommend the scenic “Romancecar” route from Tokyo to Hakone. It’s a slower, more relaxed journey through lush countryside, with the majestic Mount Fuji appearing on the horizon as the train approaches the hot springs town of Hakone.

United States, the Amtrak California Zephyr provides a stunning view of the American Midwest, from Chicago to San Francisco. The route passes through diverse landscapes—plains, deserts, and canyons—showing a different side of America’s vast terrain. Each of these journeys gave me the chance to appreciate the world’s natural beauty in a new way, all from the comfort of a train.
